Falling can be a scary experience for those affected and may often lead to injury involving the feet and ankles. Elderly patients are more commonly affected by falling because their muscles have weakened over time. To help prevent falls, there are a few techniques you can begin to follow. Making sure your living environment is well lit, your floors are clear of any clutter, and that you have grab bars installed in your bathroom and shower, are all useful steps in preventing falls.   • Clearing the house of falling hazards and installing devices like grab bars and railings
  • Utilizing a walker or cane
  • Wearing shoes that provide good support and cushioning
  • Talking to family members about falling and increasing awareness

Falling can be a traumatic and embarrassing experience for elderly persons; this can make them less willing to leave the house, and less willing to talk to someone about their fears of falling. Doing such things, however, will increase the likelihood of tripping or losing one’s balance. Ankle sprains are injuries to the ligaments that support the ankle, and are quite common among athletes. When you sprain your ankle, it is generally recommended that you avoid sports and other strenuous activities that put pressure on the affected ankle. Prior to returning to your typical activities, you will want your ankle sprain to be fully healed. Generally, this means that any swelling has gone down, you can bear weight on the affected ankle without limping, you have a full range of motion, your strength returns to normal, and your ankle is no longer causing you pain. You will also, of course, want to get permission from your doctor to return to your usual activities. How Does an Ankle Sprain Occur?

Corns are thickened areas of dead skin that result from either pressure or friction. Corns are usually very small and can cause pain if they are located in a weight bearing area.
